[Finished] Operation Deadly Love
  • Misun
  • *Two days later*
  • ‘Misun, I got some news for you,’ Jace told me as we both sat in the small cafeteria. It was rather deserted right now, with not a lot of people. Maybe that was why Jace had suggested this place. I sipped on the hot coffee that was keeping me awake and alert right now.
  • ‘Tell me you’ve got good news for me Jace because I honestly cannot handle any more bad news,’ I admitted to him.
  • Jace and I had been friends since we were young. He was three years older than me but that didn’t stop us from being friends. When my parents had died and everyone decided that I became an easy target for bullying, he was the friend who stood by my side. He protected me in school, even if it meant he would get into trouble himself for punching someone younger than him. He would always defend his actions, saying it did not matter if the person was younger or older, if they were doing wrong, then they were doing wrong and needed to be reprimanded.
  • When my grandparents made my life a living hell, he was there for me. He would “run away” with me to the treehouse and camped with me there, and then, food would miraculously appear in the morning, thanks to his sister or his parents who knew exactly how my grandparents treated me. I had lost count of how many times they took me in.
  • He was someone I trusted and admired. We had both chosen police work as our way of life. While I ended up leading Bangtan, Jace found his way into becoming a member of the National Intelligence Services. Although the years had made it difficult to meet, we remained important people in each other’s life. I guess that was why I ended up going to him for some help on this case.
  • ‘Hey, you okay? You seemed to zone out for a bit,’ Jace said, reaching for my hand. I nodded and he frowned. ‘Are you sure? Your hands keep shaking because of how much coffee you’re drinking, you smell of nicotine, probably from too much smoking and you have eye bags the size of a golf ball,’ he said.
  • ‘Wow really flattering. I see your complimenting game has gotten worse,’ I said, trying to divert the situation.
  • ‘Stop it Misun,’ he said, a little angrily. ‘I’m not *ing around right now. I’m worried about you,’ he said but I shook my head.
  • ‘I’m fine, well, as fine as I could be. Yes, I’m a little restless and tired, but I’m okay and I promise to rest as soon as I find the mother*er who did this to her,’ I said.
  • ‘I understand it’s difficult, but if you want to get her justice, you need to be able to focus,’ he said and I nodded. ‘Having said that, it might be sooner than you think. Our team and yours together, well it made the process quicker,’ he said.
  • ‘What do you mean? what did you find?’ I asked, sitting up straighter.
  • ‘We found the two hitmen that were sent and arrested them. We managed to get the name of the person who sent them, after a less than friendly interrogation,’ Jace explained, referring to the fact that they had probably to revert to using less than legal tactics, not that anyone would say anything against two heartless hitmen who tortured women in wheelchairs, especially when it threatened national security.
  • Instantly, my heart seemed to start racing ahead. I felt my hands become sweaty and clammy and my breathing seemed to hitch. His gaze softened as he squeezes his hands.
  • ‘We have the name who ordered this Misun-ah,’ he repeated, softly. I felt my body harden as I looked at him. I knew what I was craving for, even if it was not right.
  • ‘I want him myself Jace,’ I said. He arched his eyebrow, as he tilted his head to the side.
  • ‘What do you mean Misun? I hope you’re not suggesting what I think you are,’ he said and I shook my head. I could hear the apprehension in his voice – the worry I would something…not quite legal.
  • ‘I just need thirty minutes Jace, even less. I just want to look him dead in the eye and find out why,’ I said. ‘Please Jace, please, I beg you, just give me a few minutes,’ I said.
  • ‘I’ll give you twenty minutes Misun, no more and you better not make me regret it, do you understand?’ he asked and I nodded. ‘Goddammit, the things you make me do,’ he said, shaking his head.
  • ‘Well, that’s why you’re like my big bro, right?’ I asked, forcing a smile.
  • ‘I guess,’ he said. ‘ Just please, I know you can take care of yourself, but please, be careful. I...I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself if something happens to you and I’m sure your partner Jungkook would murder me on sight,’ he said.
  • ‘What are you talking about?’ I asked as I tried to look away. Yet, I could not help but gulp while my heart skipped a beat. No! I could not think of him like that! I mentally scolded myself.
  • ‘Oh come Misun-ah, do you think I’m an * or something? It’s so clear to see that the boy loves you. I’m just wondering if it’s one-sided or not,’ he said, but I remained silent. ‘I don’t think it is, but I do think you’re afraid,’ he said.
  • ‘I don’t want to talk about it Jace,’ I said and he sighed. ‘I can’t,’ I said.
  • ‘I know why you’re afraid Misun. I know you’re scared to lose him and after this, you’re even more scared, but are you going to let fear rule you all your life? Are you going to sacrifice what could be your permanent happiness for your temporary fear?’ Jace asked.
  • ‘Jace stop, please,’ I said, my tears threatening to spill. ‘I can’t Jace, I really can’t because…’ I said as I hiccupped.
  • You’re a disgrace.
  • You’re a magnet for bad luck.
  • You’re a bad omen.
  • Whatever you touch, dies.
  • You’re not worth being loved.
  • You’ll only be able to hurt others.
  • You don’t know how to love.
  • I shook my head, trying to forget their hurtful words. Jace sighed as he leaned back in his chair and looked at me, sort of as if he was studying me.
  • ‘Are you thinking about your grandparents used to tell you Misun-ah?’ he asked. I simply shrugged, but he knew the truth. He frowned loudly. ‘You know it’s not true. It’s nothing more than venomous bull* they used to tell you to control you,’ he said.
  • ‘It doesn’t mean it wasn’t true. I mean just think about it. My parents ended up dead—’ I said.
  • ‘Because of a *ing natural disaster. It’s a tragedy, but it wasn’t your fault,’ he argued back.
  • ‘Still, Jace…these past three years, Jungkook has gone through a lot because of me,’ I said.
  • ‘God, you’re so infuriating sometimes. I mean you’re so smart when it comes to solving cases and let’s not talk about how street smart you are, but you’re bloody stupid when it comes to these things. Yes, Jungkook went through some * like almost losing you a couple of times but he still chooses to love you and you know that he said.
  • ‘Whatever, I don’t want to talk about it right now. What I want is the name and address of that *,’ I said.
  • ‘Fine,’ he said as he took a paper out and handed it to m. ‘You have twenty minutes upon arriving there, then I’m calling your team. Try not to kill the *,’ he said.
  • ‘I’ll try,’ I said, taking the paper. He shook his head while I grabbed my things and left.
  • I put my phone away after having texted Jace that I arrived. I gulped as I got out of the car. I said a silent prayer in my heart as I took out my gun and marched towards the door.
  • I took another deep breath as I knocked on the door. After a few seconds, the door was opened by Mr Cha himself. His eyes widened slightly and he gulped.
  • ‘Hello…how can I help you?’ he asked and I smiled in disbelief. His eyes fell on my gun and he recoiled backwards.
  • ‘You and I are going to have a long chat,’ I said as I pointed my gun at him, making him step further back. I walked inside and closed the door behind me.
  • ‘Who—who are you? What do you want from me? Is it money? I can give you money!’ he said, clearly afraid. I could not help but scoff.
  • ‘Walk,’ I ordered him. He nodded as he walked towards the living room and I followed right behind him. ‘Sit your ass down,’ I said. He gave a single nod and then sat down.
  • ‘Please… what---what is going on? Who are you?’ he asked.
  • ‘Who am I? My name is Yang Misun or you can refer to me as Detective,’ I said. His eyes went wider before he seemed to relax slightly.
  • ‘Then you know you’re breaking the law by doing this Detective,’ he said, this time his arrogance starting to show.
  • ‘I’m not here as a Detective Mr Cha, I’m here as Natalie’s friend. Does the name Natalie ring any bells for you?’ I asked. Instantly, I saw him grow pale and the fear returned to his face.
  • ‘Wh—what are you talking about?’ he asked as he seemed to sink further into the couch.
  • ‘I’m talking about the girl you ordered to be tortured for information and then killed,’ I said as I pointed my gun at him.
  • ‘Please… you’re making a mistake like this,’ he said, not daring to even deny it. I scoffed as I walked closer to him.
  • ‘A mistake?’ I asked laughing a little. I could barely recognize myself as I did so. ‘No, you’re the one who made a mistake going after her? And for what? To steal her research which was meant to help people and turn it into a biological weapon huh?’ I yelled and he gulped.
  • ‘I…I…she just made it difficult. She should have just told them what we wanted to know,’ he said. I felt my anger flare up as I quickly punched him right across the face. Blood came out of his busted lip and nose while he looked at me with wide eyes while he panted, clearly afraid.
  • ‘So they tortured her? They killed her! She could not even defend herself you *,’ I yelled as I punched him again. His face went sideways before he turned to look at me. Suddenly, his fear seemed to transform into a smirk.
  • ‘What do you think killing is me going to achieve? You will be sent to prison,’ he said but I shook my head.
  • ‘I’m not killing you, well, unless you * me off really bad but I am going to hurt you, even if it means losing my badge,’ I said as I punched him again, this time sending him to his knees.
  • I took a deep calming breath as I looked into the wall unit which had a glass covering. My eyes widened as I saw someone approaching, gun aimed. I ducked just a shot was fired.
  • Well *…I didn’t see the second * coming. I had to improvise. I took a deep breath, hoping I could handle this…if not…Jungkook please forgive me.
